Kari Lyon, founder of Balanced Bodywork, began
her journey at Northeastern University where she earned
a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. After graduating with
High Honors, she went on to work as a counselor for
adolescent females with emotional issues. As Kari
developed her professional skills in a mental health
setting, she knew she wanted to continue helping people
heal, but on a more holistic level.
That is when Kari enrolled at Cortiva Muscular Therapy
Institute in Watertown, MA. As one of the top muscular
therapy programs in the country, MTI prepared her for a
successful career in bodywork. During her two year
program, she cultivated the necessary skills to
effectively treat her clients and acquired the knowledge
to run a flourishing business.
Following graduation from MTI, Kari discovered the power
of energy and its influence on healing. She decided to
pursue a training in Reiki Energy Healing. She studied
the ancient Japanese modality with Reiki Masters Denise
Kinch and Paula Winters and is now Level II Reiki
certified. Kari has also studied the Inca Medicine
Wheel, an ancient Peruvian medicine tradition with the
aforementioned healers. This tradition has allowed her
to expand as a healer and a human being on an emotional,
spiritual and intellectual level.
In addition, Kari has traveled to Thailand to study
traditional Thai Yoga Massage. While studying in Chiang
Mai, she learned Thai techniques from native women who
have been extensively trained in the field. She has also
taken classes on Aston Patterning Bodywork with world
renowned bodyworker, Judith Aston. Aston Patterning
incorporates movement education and modified massage
techniques that help the body to perform at its optimal
level.
Kari currently works as a massage therapist for Harvard
University, Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Arnold
Worldwide Advertising Firm providing on-site chair
massage for each company’s employees.
As a bodyworker, Kari combines her skills, education and
experience with clients to create a unique healing
experience. Each client is treated with respect and
integrity and she strives to assist each person in their
own individual healing.
